About Us

Ericka Smith is a 4th generation horsewoman with a passion for horses that was sparked at the age of 6 with her first riding lesson. Less than a year later her horse show career began. Throughout the years, Ericka has been fortunate enough to be mentored by many of the biggest names in the industry. She has found great success as a Youth, Amateur and as a professional trainer, and exhibitor. Over 34 years, Ericka has earned multiple World and Reserve World titles as well as Congress and Reserve Congress titles in several disciplines from the AQHA, ABRA, NRHA, NSBA and PTHA associations.

Ericka established Rancho Verde in 2020 when she had the vision for a show and breeding program that would produce competitive Buckskin bred Quarter and Paint horses – the champions of tomorrow.

“I have the best horses I’ve ever had in my life right now and I don’t ever get to ride them! I’ve made sacrifices willingly and it doesn’t even compare to the privilege of owning and promoting such wonderful horses. I think most people are only lucky enough to have one great horse in their lifetime and I’ve been blessed to have owned several. I’ve put my whole heart, soul, and passion into building this program. It’s taken me years to get where I am… I’ve had ups and downs… but I would not trade it for anything! I’m truly blessed and beyond excited for what the future holds.”

Ericka shares the enjoyment of the business with her parent’s Rick and Suzan Smith and her oldest daughter Ava, who excels as a horsewoman in her own right. She’s a top non-pro rider and has been very successful with young horses and finished show horses.
